Giedrė Kvieskienė was born in 1956, in Varniai.
She spent her youth in Plungė, Klaipėda and Vilnius. She acquired history –
pedagogics speciality in Vilnius pedagogical university. Giedrė Kvieskienė
defended doctor‘s thesis in social sciences (educology) in St. Petersburg
Institute of Culture. In 1999 together with colleagues from Vilnius pedagogical
university she established Social pedagogics department and works as its Head.
Director does not only run SCI, but also teaches theoretical courses in Vilnius pedagogical
university, she is the chairperson of incorporators‘ board at interim children‘s foster home
“Atsigręžk į vaikus”, member of UNICEF board, and a board member at Lithuanian
center union …As you can see, our director is a very active woman. Having so
many responsibilities Giedrė Kvieskienė does not have much free time. Usually
she relaxes by changing types of activities such as going on internships abroad
where she meets new people, gets acquainted with new culture, and acquires new
ideas and knowledge for her lectures and studies. However, active way of
relaxing is also tiring. Then the director spends her free time with her family
but that does not happen very often. Giedrė likes reading. Unfortunately, there
is very little time for novels, because she reads a lot of scientific literature
and after that she writes her own teaching material. She has already written 24
published works which are related to social issues. The main director‘s aim is
that children lived, studied and worked in Lithuania. To achieve this goal,
Giedrė will strive for qualitative education for youth that they could use
interest-free loans to acquire accommodation and education, that people could
work and earn money honestly…That‘s what our director Giedrė Kvieskienė
is!
