MISSION:
Initiate positive social changes, implementing fundamental and applied research and appropriate study programs in the spheres of social development, socioecological education and human resource.

VISION:
Social communication institute prepares social pedagogues and social workers, leisure pedagogues, animators, social, cultural and recreational activity managers, social illnesses and social rights qualified specialists, retraining, qualification improvement, organizes seminars and conferences in social communication sphere. Social communication institute carries out scientific research in this field, cooperates with related institutions within the country and from abroad.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE:
Prof. B. Bitinas initiated the preparation of Social education specialists in Lithuania  in 1990 in Vilnius pedagogical institute (now university) in History and pedagogics faculty (according to history teacher and social pedagogue preparation program). Since 1995 Vilnius pedagogical university prepares Master students in social pedagogics. Social pedagogics department was established February 1, 2000. Dr. doc. Giedrė Kvieskienė was in charge of the department until July 1, 2004. Since February 1, 2005 it has been run by dr. Valdonė Indrašienė .  
On July 1, 2004 Social pedagogics department by the decision of  Vilnius pedagogical university Senate became Social communication institute. It is presided over by dr. doc. Giedrė Kvieskienė.
